With the release of the (now infamous) Kimye Vogue cover, I couldn’t help but read all the hilarious backlash that the magazine is receiving for putting this crazy duo on their cover. As an avid follower of all things celebrity related, which happens to be a huge vice of mine, I decided to do some breaking down of how we even got to the point of putting these people on the cover of one of the most renowned fashion magazines. Personally, I say let them do whatever they want. Someone will find a way to make fun of it eventually, and that is endless entertainment for the rest of us.
A disclaimer: I know that Kanye West has apologized for the Taylor Swift incident (and more). I know that Kim Kardashian has, well, completely owned up to the fact that she got her start based on a sex tape. I’m only elaborating on how many see them as a joke, which explains why I’m showing my favorite spoofs.
Kim Kardashian: A Snapshot
A long, long time ago in a land not so far away, Paris Hilton had a friend she liked to party with: Kim Kardashian. The two fell out of each other’s good graces, with Paris Hilton first saying that her reality show was better, as well as saying that she believes Kim has a butt that reminds her “of cottage cheese inside a big trash bag.” Really, Paris Hilton?!
Then, the infamous Ray-J sex tape bestowed itself upon the world. Kim now admits to Oprah that the sex tape introduced herself to the world. Hey, at least she admits it.
Fast forward past the sex tape, and you can still find a large amount of Kardashian baggage. From her 72-day marriage to Kris Humphries, to Bruce and Kris Jenner’s separation, to Khloe’s Lamar Odom marriage ordeal, you officially have your famously-troublesome reality family.
Enter Kanye West
You’ve heard of the man, and you’ve probably seen way more of him than you would have liked to over the past few years. In 2009, he famously cut off Taylor Swift during her VMA acceptance speech. He drank a lot and said a lot of really, really bizarre things.
And now, this man and Kim Kardashian have procreated and are getting married. For the most part, no one cares. If you’re like me, you follow this information just so you can watch them get made fun of for the ridiculous things they do.
And now, ladies and gentlemen, my favorite spoofs of Kimye.
The Vogue Spoof
Let’s be real: Kimye has to ignore the haters, because there are so many of them out there. ANDPOP has some of the best spoofs of the Kimye Vogue cover, including a Game of Thrones reference, Jay Z and Kanye, Seth Rogan, and even One Direction.
Personally, I enjoyed the fact that a real life couple announced their pregnancy by mocking the cover. Kudos.
South Park Spoof
South Park is actually way, way ahead of the game. They started making fun of Kanye West in the episode “Fishsticks” (season 13, episode 5) in which he rapper is insulted by a joke that he doesn’t understand. I could explain it to you, but you might as well watch the clip here and see for yourself.
The Second South Park Spoof
Continuing from the first South Park spoof, Kanye now accepts himself as a gay fish and tries to defend Kim, explaining that she is not a hobbit character from the J.R.R. Tolkien series Lord of the Rings. In the end, he can’t defend her.
Bound 3 with James Franco and Seth Rogan
A personal favorite of mine is the video James Franco and Seth Rogan created to make fun of Kanye’s Bound 2. See it here with the original video, frame by frame. And yes, Seth Rogan is prettier than Kim Kardashian.
SNL’s “Waking Up With Kimye”
What does SNL do wrong? Nothing. This quote embodies all that is Kimye: “What better way to start off your morning than with our energy, my opinions, and the sound of Kim’s voice.” Dead on.
